Chennault Legal & Consulting Group Hosts Press Conference Addressing the Need for Change in Rockdale County School System Regarding Child Neglect

By: PRLog

ATLANTA - Dec. 20, 2023 - PRLog -- On December 19th, the Chennault Legal Consulting Group convened a press conference on behalf of Ms. Yemaya Lyles and her son, Antonio Lyles, addressing the Rockdale County Public Schools Board of Education. Attorney Chennault voiced concerns about Antonio's mental and physical well-being following an incident on November 10th. The focus of the event was the assault on 8-year-old student Antonio Lyles by a Rockdale County Public School paraprofessional at Pine Street Elementary on November 10th. Yemaya Lyles received notification three days after the initial incident. The press conference revealed not only the specifics of Antonio's case but also shed light on a broader pattern of mistreatment of children with special needs in the aftermath of the incident. These developments underscored the erosion of the family's constitutional right to a public school education.

Despite numerous attempts, the mother faced obstacles in accessing classroom footage in her children's video surveillance room. To date, neither the Rockdale County Public Schools Board of Education nor the Rockdale Police Department has released the footage. Former Pine Street Elementary Paraeducator Arie Jones has been charged with simple battery by the Police Department.

The severity of the incident, coupled with the lack of video surveillance in the bathroom where Antonio was placed, raises significant concerns for the family and the potential safety of future students. In response to these issues, Chennault Legal & Consulting Group outlined specific demands in a correspondence sent on December 14th to the Rockdale County Public Schools Board of Education. Following this, Attorney Chennault addressed the warrant that is currently out for former Pine Street Elementary Paraeducator Arie Jones. Attorney Chennault will not stop until justice is served for Antonio and other families similar to his case.

The School Board is urged to respond in writing by December 31, 2023, with resolution sought by January 2024. In the absence of an amicable resolution, legal claims will be pursued in federal court.
