Chicago, Illinois - On November 10th, 2022, the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cook County (CASA of Cook County) will honor Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois Congressman Danny K. Davis, and CASA volunteers with the Champion of Children's Award at their Annual Fall Fundraiser.
The mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County is to advance foster care child advocacy for children in Cook County by ensuring that their needs are met and rights are protected; by transitioning out of foster care into permanent, safe, and loving homes as quickly as possible; and that youth aging out of foster care have the resources and support they need to live independently. Currently, a child in foster care in Cook County is 90% likely to not have a steady, dedicated CASA volunteer. CASA advocacy has been proven to be effective. The historical investment from the State of Illinois for CASA advocacy in Cook County will begin to level child advocacy for foster children in Chicago and Cook County. CASA is deeply grateful to Governor Pritzker for the recent investment in our organization to ensure more children are served in our community.
Dr. Carr, Chief Executive Officer of the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cook County, stated, "Rosa Parks once said, "You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right." This quote encapsulates Governor Pritzker's recent actions regarding the investment to CASA of Cook County to address the disparity of services for foster children and youth in Chicago and Cook County. Gov. Pritzker's actions have changed the trajectory of services that CASA of Cook County can now offer in more than 30 years of our organization's history."
Governor JB Pritzker stated, "I couldn't be more honored to be the recipient of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County Champions of Children Award," said Governor JB Pritzker. "The children that CASA of Cook County serves are among the most vulnerable in our society, and it brings me immeasurable pride to know the work my administration is doing on their behalf has made an impact on the services they receive. To the entire CASA of Cook County team and volunteers: thank you for showing up for the foster youth who need it most, day after day. Without you, this work wouldn't be possible."
"I am humbled and honored to receive the Champions of Children award from the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cook County," said Rep. Davis. "CASA advocates dedicate themselves to helping children with a passion and commitment that I admire and that makes our nation stronger. I am grateful for their tireless advocacy, and I am proud to work with CASA of Cook County to protect children and secure the resources children need to be safe and thrive."
The award celebration will take place virtually on November 10th at 7 pm and is free to attend. Please visit www.casacookcounty.org/journey/ for more information.
