Indiana police find body of girl who was missing since 2016, man arrested

Karena McClerkin was 18 when she disappeared back in 2016. Now, Indiana police say they found her skeletal remains in a rural part of the state in July.

Indiana police say that the body of a girl who was missing since 2016 was found in a rural part of the state.

Karena McClerkin, who was 18 at the time that she went missing, was last seen on October 11, 2016, and was reported missing on October 13, 2016.

The Kokomo Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers have continuously tried to find the missing girl, and received a tip in the fall of 2021 with information surrounding McClerkin's disappearance and events that took place afterward.

On July 18, an arrest warrant was issued for Flint Farmer, 57, on murder charges. As police continued to investigate, after taking Farmer into custody, police went to a rural part of Miami County as a possible location where McClerkin's body could have been.

Police found skeletal remains in the area on July 19, which were sent to a forensic pathologist, who confirmed that the remains belonged to McClerkin.

Officials are still determining the cause of death, according to WRTV.

Gerry McClerkin, the grandmother, said that she was heartbroken upon learning about her granddaughter's death.

"My heart's gone. It's gone," she said. "It's going to stay until she's put to rest and it might stay a little bit longer after that."

"She'll never know her little brother. She's got a niece she'll never know and she's named after her," Gerry McClerkin said.

Farmer is being held in jail with no bond.
