netElastic vBNG Achieves 770 Gbps Throughput by Using 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and 100 GbE Network Adapters

Test Results are a major breakthrough in virtual Broadband Network Gateway performance

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - May 11, 2022 - PRLog -- netElastic, an innovative software company providing high-performance routing solutions, today announced test results for netElastic's Virtual BNG fueled by 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which reached 770 Gbps throughput.

The 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform introduces PCIe Gen 4, which doubles the CPU socket's I/O bandwidth. A dual socket server with two Intel Xeon Scalable processors with built-in AI accelerators has up to 800 Gb/s theoretical I/O bandwidth, compared to 400 Gb/s on previous 2nd generation platforms, which use PCIe Gen 3.

"Given the never-ending customer demand for more bandwidth and the need to control costs, broadband providers want to scale their networks without having to purchase expensive new proprietary systems," said Weixiao Liu, CEO at netElastic. "With this new milestone in vBNG performance, service providers can now easily and cost-effectively scale their networks to meet bandwidth demand and ensure the best customer experience."

The 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8360Y processor coupled with the Intel Ethernet Network Adapter E810-2CQDA2 demonstrated high-throughput performance with a netElastic vBNG configured for 64,000 subscribers and 100,000 OSPF routes per server. The new optimized platform reached 770Gbps throughput across the two socket 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based server.*

"The virtualization of the BNG is another example of how service providers are choosing to reap the benefits of flexibility, agility and reduced TCO while maximizing performance as they upgrade their network infrastructure," said Alex Quach, Intel VP and GM Wireline & Core Network Division.  "By utilizing the latest generation of Intel CPUs and network adapters, netElastic has shown how their vBNG solution can scale via distributed software to meet the growing need for more data throughput."
