The Cardinal Chef Knife, the revolutionary new ergonomic kitchen knife designed with an ergonomic handle for smaller hands, is live on global crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and raising funds to bring the project to life.
The Cardinal Knife is an award-winning design from Sole Cookware that addresses the longstanding issues faced by countless home cooks and professional chefs alike— knives are not one-size fits all. Women, as well as men with smaller hands, often run into the issue of working with knives in the kitchen that aren’t suited for their physiological difference; resulting in poor grips, physical strain, and diminished enjoyment.
“In culinary school, the knife kit includes an 8-inch knife, and the female students have to practice harder trying to perfect their skills as opposed to their male counterparts, who often individualize their experience by buying specialized knives,” says founder and CEO Lily Osman on the inspiration behind the project. “Instead of hiding the separation, a great women’s chef’s knife would embrace the different ways women have become figures in the modern kitchen, both professional and private.”
Merely shortening a knife's blade does not inherently enhance its accessibility for women. This surface level “fix” almost always fails to capture the heft and security of a traditional chef’s knife. The Cardinal Chef Knife is a groundbreaking new kitchen tool that offers superior blade quality with a modular design so that user’s can customize the knife to their exact specifications. The knife can be customized from a range of blade options, interchangeable handles and even color customization. At the heart of the design lies the strategic placement of magnets, which have been intricately paired with precise angles and configurations of the blade within the pinch guard. This seamless integration with the handle facilitates effortless assembly, ensuring user convenience at every step.
“When I first came up with the idea for Sole Cookware, it was born out of a personal struggle that I faced, along with many of my clients, during my time as a cooking instructor. I realized that there was a real problem with the way cookware, especially knives, were designed. They simply didn't fit everyone's hands comfortably, which made the cooking process less enjoyable and more challenging than it needed to be,” adds Osman. “As we developed the idea further, it became clear that our product was more than just a tool – it was a brand. Our mission is to re-innovate cookware, starting with knives that fit everyone's hands, so that people can truly enjoy the process of cooking.”
