American Water Charitable Foundation Invests in California’s Future with Workforce Readiness and STEM Education Grants

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced three California organizations were awarded 2023 Workforce Readiness and STEM Education Grants.

“Investing in tomorrow’s leaders is critical to the future of our communities and our industry,” said Kevin Tilden, President of California American Water. “We are thrilled to see the American Water Charitable Foundation support organizations like Meristem, Generation Steam, and the Museum Foundation of Pacific Grove who are making a difference in the lives of diverse young people through innovative and impactful programs.”

About the California Grant Recipients:

  • Meristem (Sacramento): Awarded $25,000 to purchase equipment for their café internship program, providing job skills and barista training to young adults on the Autism spectrum.



  • Museum Foundation of Pacific Grove: Awarded $14,500 to build their Naturalists in Training Internship Program, focusing on high school students and emphasizing hands-on conservation and leadership skills.



  • Generation STEAM (Chula Vista): Awarded $10,000 to support their Life Science Station program, which engages 4th graders in hands-on STEAM activities, career exploration, and engineering design challenges.

These grants will directly support high-impact projects and initiatives that align with American Water’s commitment to ESG, inclusion, diversity, and equity.

The 2023 Workforce Readiness and STEM Education Grant Programs are part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People, and Communities.
