Julia Haart and Liev Schreiber Raised Vital Funds for Ukrainian Children

East Hampton, NY - A special fundraising event, organized by Mriya Gallery over Labor Day weekend raised $31,380 to support children affected by the war in Ukraine. The funds will benefit BlueCheck Ukraine, an organization co-founded by Liev Schreiber and supported by former Doctors Without Borders leaders, filmmakers, and social entrepreneurs.

Guests enjoyed a diverse collection, including Ukrainian art pieces from Mriya Gallery and Rukh art Hub, private works by Scott Baxter, who generously provided his beautiful estate for the event -  masterpieces by renowned artists such as Warhol, Rodin, and Dali. The event not only celebrated Ukrainian culture but also underscored the urgent humanitarian needs on the ground.

Attendees were moved by a powerful speech from Julia Haart, fashion designer and “My Unorthodox Life” Netflix star who shared her personal experiences of delivering ambulances to Bakhmut and emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom. “There are moments in life where you realize that you're in a place for a purpose that is so much greater than yourself,” Haart remarked. “The fight that is happening in Ukraine today is a battle for freedom, and it is our duty to stand with them.” Haart also made headlines by purchasing the first painting of the evening—a work titled In Blossom #6 by Dasha S. Kandinsky, a contemporary artist born in Kyiv and now based in Switzerland, and a descendant of the Kandinsky dynasty.

Liev Schreiber, co-founder of BlueCheck Ukraine, addressed the guests with a message of gratitude, acknowledging the critical support provided by the event. “Although I couldn’t be there in person, your presence and contributions mean the world to us,” Schreiber said. “As Ukraine defends itself against Russia's brutal and multifaceted attack, it is more essential than ever to celebrate and reinforce Ukrainian culture and identity. The best defense against any attempt at genocide is a broad embrace of the humanity and culture at the heart of it. What they are fighting for is simply the right to exist—to raise their children and their children’s children as Ukrainians”.

A moment of silence was observed for all children in Ukraine, adding a poignant note to the evening.

The event was further enriched by performances from the Fima Chupakhin Jazz Band and DJ Anastasia Bondarenko, along with a curated dinner by chef Dima Martseniuk, making it a memorable and impactful occasion.

As Ukraine continues to face unprecedented aggression, events like this play a crucial role in celebrating and reinforcing Ukrainian culture while providing essential support. The funds raised will help ensure that children and their families receive the urgent assistance they need during these challenging times.
