Kotex and South African Pop Star Create 'She Can Anthem' to Challenge Period Misconceptions

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: Kimberly-Clark Corporation

DESCRIPTION:

To help break down stereotypes and misconceptions about periods, Kimberly-Clark’s Kotex® brand partnered with South Africa’s well-known music artist and megastar Boity Thulo to invite South Africans to submit lyrics addressing period stigma to write the 'She Can Anthem.' With more than 500 lines of lyrics submitted by both women and men, the 'She Can Anthem' recently hit the #19 spot on South Africa’s music charts.

“We are changing the tune about periods and getting women to celebrate their periods. They are a symbol of our strength and our power,” said Boity. She added, “I have made hit songs, given powerful performances and launched major business ventures while on my period, and I’m proud to be a strong, successful woman. Our periods are a sign of that power.”

Through its She Can Initiative, the Kotex brand is committed to fighting period stigma and opening doors for women around the globe by providing education and tools to support their success and champion their progress.

“We want to create a space where women feel good about every aspect of themselves and feel free and empowered to engage openly about periods in society,” said Nthabiseng Leso, Kotex Marketing Manager at Kimberly-Clark in South Africa. “When we stigmatize periods, we stigmatize women. Meanwhile, women are amazing. We are powerful, dynamic and inspirational, and we achieve everything we do while menstruating. Boity is a strong woman who shares our vision, and we are proud to have her as a partner!”
