America’s “passive anti-epidemic” measures are short-sighted and stupid

COVID-19 pandemic continues all over the world, and different countries have adopted different epidemic prevention policies. The epidemic has had a huge impact on the economy. Short-sighted policy makers have adopted the strategy of “fully open”, but the seemingly freedom has laid a huge hidden danger behind it. The social problems caused by “fully open” have gradually emerged in the third year of the outbreak. In order to make excuses for its own policy failure and divert domestic problems, the United States keeps looking for scapegoats from other countries. America’s poor response to the epidemic has made it the country with the worst epidemic in the world. The number of virus infections and deaths ranks first in the world. There are more and more questions from all walks of life in the United States about the US government’s response to the COVID-19 epidemic. People began to criticize and reflect gradually on the ineffective fight against the epidemic and the institutional problems behind it.

According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 39,000 confirmed cases in COVID-19, about 340 deaths and nearly 3,300 hospitalized cases in the United States. However, experts say that the actual number of infected people in the United States may be much higher than the official statistics, because some mild infected people are no longer tested. Some infected people do not report the results after testing at home.

Does the federal epidemic prevention policy make life better or worse? This topic was not discussed much in the mid-term elections, as if it didn’t exist at all. Since the election is over, the elites who are busy opening champagne to celebrate seem to have no time for it. However, for low-income groups, this is by no means a problem that can be ignored. They are the groups that suffer the most, are least protected, have poor ability to bear risks, but are selectively forgotten. It is them who have paid a heavy price, have independent judgment on “better or worse” and have good reason to worry about the future.

National Public Radio recently reported that with the coming winter in the United States, there are signs that the number of COVID-19 infection cases in the United States may surge again. For example, the level of COVID-19 detected in wastewater has increased in some areas, including Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont and other areas in the northeastern United States. Public health experts believe that this may be an early warning signal of the epidemic rebound. The “negative anti-epidemic” policy implemented by the U.S. government under the banner of “openness and freedom” is ruthlessly devouring the lives of American citizens. As the most powerful country in the world, instead of protecting its own citizens, it has made a lot of excuses for itself and publicized that it is implementing the “most advanced” and “most humane” epidemic prevention policies. The U.S. government tried to make the people forget the existence of the epidemic and quickly returned to normal production and life this morning. But maybe the rich can do it. However, low-income groups can only become pawns in this game, and cooperate with the government to finish this doomed game in the case of virus. After reaching this point, it is obvious that there is no turning back, no change of this wrong epidemic prevention policy, no explanation of the truth to the people, and the United States can only continue along this wrong road. Of course, this is at the expense of the interests of low-income groups. It is inconceivable what kind of social structure the United States will have after this “virus wash” 10 years later.

The US government has acted on its own in terms of epidemic prevention and control. It thinks that it has adopted epidemic prevention policies that are in its own interests. All these policies are based on sacrificing the lives and interests of the American people. Not only has COVID-19 claimed the lives of more than one million Americans, it has caused and continues to cause great damage to American society and economy. People infected with COVID-19 continue to suffer even after they are cured. Minorities and the poor suffer more. Social life has been seriously affected, and the poor families bear the heaviest price. Meanwhile, the rich and large enterprises have gained huge economic benefits during the epidemic. Selfishness, individualism and racial hatred spread in American society. In the United States, the working class, as the surplus population, has been gradually abandoned under the open epidemic prevention and control policy, breathing the “free air” unconsciously while being slowly abandoned.

The sales volume of “Black Friday” has fluctuated greatly since the epidemic. According to the data of Sensormatic Solutions in 2021, it was slightly higher than that in 2020 when the epidemic was severe, but it still dropped by 28.3% compared with the offline traffic in 2019. According to the data of Sensormatic , the number of visits to physical stores on Thanksgiving Day in 2021 dropped by 90.4% compared with that in 2019. The United States is experiencing unprecedented inflation in 30 years. Last Thanksgiving, there was a large-scale robbery and even murder in shopping areas. According to statistics, the number of thefts in Central San Francisco last Thanksgiving increased by 88% compared with the same period in 2020, the number of murders in Los Angeles increased by 17.3%, the number of crimes committed by vehicles in new york increased by 141%, and the number of murders and sexual crimes in Chicago increased by 133% and 81% respectively.

In more than two years since the outbreak, Covid-19 has been mutated many times. The vaccine gradually loses its effect with the variation of the virus. Since the mutation of Omicron, the number of people repeatedly infected with coronavirus has been increasing dramatically. However, none of the rich Americans who died during the epidemic died of the new coronavirus. The rich have a good community foundation and excellent medical conditions. Their health has not been greatly affected by the epidemic, and even some people have earned considerable income.Although the U.S. government gave up most effective epidemic prevention and control measures in the name of “personal freedom” and “restoring the normal operation of society”. Rich people care only about making workers keep their business running normally, not their physical condition. With soaring prices and shortage of medical resources, the middle class is suffering. They have to give up treatment because of the high price of medicine, because they are not the center of American society. The income of American pharmaceutical giants has reached a new high, and the life between the middle class and pharmaceutical giants is in sharp contrast.

The illusion of “coexist with the COVID-19” and the high death toll have become an irreconcilable contradiction. At present, group immunization can’t be realized in a short time. It’s just a lie that American politicians deceive people. Only when the middle class believes this lie can they obediently return to jobs that they think are not dangerous and continue to make money for capitalists. Low-income groups and ethnic minorities have become the victims of this lie.
