Several local companies played major roles in the construction of YSU’s newest facility.

Youngstown, OH, June 23, 2021 – The Builders Association is proud to announce that several of its members played integral roles during the construction phase of YSU’s Excellence Training Center, which will officially open in July 2021. During the project’s buildout, YSU utilized the services of Brock and Associates Builders, TEMA Roofing Services, Lencyk Masonry Company, Inc, and The Diamond Steel Construction Co., all members of The Builders Association of Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
“At The Builders Association, we like to say ‘if you have a project, you should build with the best,’” says Kevin Reilly, executive vice president of The Builders Association. “We want businesses to utilize our members because they are true professionals – they have the best training available and that translates into a high-quality project that gets done on time and within budget.”
The Builders Association members that worked on the project brought vital, local expertise to the table and helped to ensure a seamless build, basically from start to finish.
Youngstown State University’s Excellence Training Center will be a hub for advanced manufacturing education and workforce training, and the ETC’s build out includes a 28,000 square foot renovation and a 25,000 square foot low-bay addition. The facility boasts an energy-efficient design with approximately $5.5 million worth of advanced manufacturing equipment, labs, classrooms, and storage areas.
The facility’s grand opening is planned for July of 2021 and will likely include an official ribbon cutting ceremony. The Excellence Training Center is a collaboration between YSU, Eastern Gateway Community College, and the Mahoning, Columbiana, and Trumbull County Career and Technical Centers. The facility allows students to pursue various degrees, receive new certifications, and accumulate industry-recognized credentials such as CNC machining, industrial maintenance, robotics, automation and additive manufacturing.
“Wait until you see this facility,” says YSU President Jim Tressel. “Whether it be the whole robotics laboratory, which is giant, or the foundry, the 3D printing, industrial maintenance, CNC machining, or stamping– it’s really a spectacular facility.”
