American University of Antigua College of Medicine Remembers Alvin Eden, MD, Clinical Co-Chair, Pediatrics

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Dec. 13, 2022 - PRLog -- Alvin Noam Eden, M.D. passed away peacefully at home on 12/9/22. Dr. Eden was born in 1926 and raised in Brooklyn throughout his childhood and adolescent years. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Columbia College (1948), and Doctor of Medicine from Boston University (1952). He completed his internship at Bellevue Hospital in NYC (1953) and Pediatric Residency at University Hospital (1955). He had been a private Pediatric practitioner in Forest Hills, NY since 1955.

Dr. Eden's professional experience spanned over 70 years which included; Associate Clinical Professor at NYU Medical School, Clinical Professor at Weill Cornell Medical School, lecturer at SUNY-Downstate, and former President of both the NY and Queens County Pediatric Societies. He was the former Chair of Pediatrics at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY for nearly 50 years. He was also Clinical Co-Chair of Pediatrics at American University of Antigua College of Medicine since 2008, where he taught, supervised, and mentored hundreds of students on clinical rotations as well as residents in training. He also received the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award for all his accomplishments.

Dr. Eden published 8 books mainly related to childhood obesity, nutrition, exercise, and iron deficiency anemia. He also published nearly 35 scholarly articles related to obesity prevention, positive parenting, and raising healthy children for new parents. His last publication "A Look Back", was an autobiography of his memoirs for the past 96 years.

Dr. Eden will be remembered as a Doctor's Doctor par excellence. He was a devoted husband to his wife Elaine for 70 years, a loving father to his 2 children, Elizabeth (OBGYN) and Robert (Pediatrician), and a proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren. His hobbies included playing tennis, watching baseball, reading novels, and telling jokes to lighten the day for anyone around him.

He was a legend in his time and he leaves behind an unforgettable impression on those lucky enough to have known him.

Neal Simon, President of American University of Antigua expressed his condolences, saying, "I first met Dr. Alvin Eden when I became involved in medical education in the late 1970s. Since that time, I have always been in awe of his intellect, his spirit, and his caring nature. His generosity in sharing his medical knowledge (and his jokes) were evident to all who interacted with him. This can be seen in his numerous publications. Doctor Eden's contributions to American University of Antigua are immeasurable. All who knew Dr. Eden, including his colleagues and students, will miss him. We can all be comforted by the knowledge and joy he left us."
