From teasing to hot-rolling and every thickening product in between, those of us with fine hair will stop at nothing to get our hands on some lasting volume.Turns out we’re not alone, as the latest product to go viral on TikTok is none other than a root-boosting hair tool I’ve been impressed with: the Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron ($140).

My hair type:

I have long, fine hair. It holds a wave well but frizzes up over time in the Florida summer heat. Volumizing techniques only tend to deliver volume to the mid-lengths of my hair. For volume at the root, a spritz of dry shampoo helps, but quickly falls flat.

The benefits:

Created with checkerboard plates to “stamp” a textured pattern onto the hair, the crimper-like tool is made to be used beneath the top layer of hair (similar thinking to teasing) so hair looks smooth but full of volume. The process takes a few minutes and delivers texture and volume at the root that sticks around until your next wash day. Plus, because the plates only come into contact with the hair for a few seconds, heat damage stays at a minimum. (But we’re still fans of spritzing on a heat protectant before treating each section.)

How to use it:

It might look like a flat iron, but the Voloom works nothing like one. Part your hair as you normally would, then plan to work in halves. Section off the top layer of hair you would like to remain smooth, clip it away, then section off the layer of hair beneath it. Use the Voloom to clamp at the root for one to two seconds, then release. Continue sectioning off the layers below and repeat the clamp and release method. Repeat these steps on the other side.

@erinduganjurchakReply to @sheila_064 i use it every single time I do my hair. Just life changing. I have an affiliate code in my bio for 15% off #hair #volume #voloom♬ Levitating (feat. DaBaby) – Dua Lipa

The bottom line:

For stubborn hair that simply won’t hold volume at the root, the Voloom is worth a try. Whether you use it all around your head or just at the crown for some extra height, the clamp-and-go tool really works to deliver bombshell volume in minutes.
