Girls Empowerment Network Launches Pathfinder Leadership Summit for Young Women

Leadership program helps teens on the road to independence, college and career

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, Texas, June 16, 2022 – Girls Empowerment Network is accepting applications for its 2022 Pathfinder Leadership Summit, its weeklong summer program to be held at Houston’s Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy located at 1906 Cleburne St., Houston, Texas 77004. The personal and professional development program will be held June 27–July 1, 2022, and is open for all young women who will enter grades 9–12 during the 2022–2023 school year.

The weeklong summit includes five action-packed days of self-discovery, goal setting and skill-building activities to include networking, writing, financial literacy, financial aid workshops, role-modeling experiences with local Houston women leaders, service opportunities, online discussion forum and a celebratory showcase at the end of the week. The cost to attend is $300 with full and partial scholarships available.

Texas nonprofit Girls Empowerment Network is known for creating innovative programs for girls ages 8–18 that build girls self-efficacy, the belief in their ability to succeed. All the activities incorporate our Six Cs—confidence, communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and coping skills—to ignite the power in girls.

Last year girls who attended Pathfinder told us they learned: “To never give up on them [my goals], I learned that in order for them to come true you have to work hard to achieve them, and to surround myself with good people who believe that I can achieve anything.”

Local Houston organizations including Career Connections Center from Texas Women’s University, Compudopt Houston, GRADcafé by Project Grad, Dance Instructor KJ Echols, Writers in the Schools (WITS), Texas Advocacy Project, and The Women’s Resource will partner on select activities during the week.

Girls will also participate in one-on-one Power Chats, small group discussions between girls and adult relatable role models about career paths, community leadership and life in general. These mentorship experiences help girls broaden their view of what is possible, so they are inspired to pursue the career of their dreams.

“Girls will focus on rediscovering community and redefining their own story as they network with peers and professional women from around Houston,” says Kameryn Sampson, MSW, Girls Empowerment Network Interim Program Director. “As girls grow their skills, they will rediscover their own interests and strengths and learn ways to pursue a bright and independent future.”
