FeganScott Investigates AT&T’s Data Breach Affecting More than 73 Million Current and Former Customers

Customer Social Security numbers, other highly sensitive information appears on the dark web

Today, FeganScott, a law firm representing consumers, announced it has launched an investigation of AT&T concerning a data breach in which the Social Security numbers and passcodes of about 7.6 million current account holders and 65.4 million former account holders appeared on the Dark Web.

Published reports state that the leaked data include the Social Security numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and pin codes of current and former account holders. The company said in published reports that the breach impacted data from 2019 or earlier, but AT&T is currently unable to determine when or how the breach occurred.

“What is particularly troubling is it appears that the first sign of monumental lapse of security was when customers’ data, including highly sensitive information, appeared on the dark web,” said Elizabeth Fegan, managing partner of Fegan Scott, a law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of consumers. “I believe AT&T has done an abysmal job of safeguarding customer privacy and concurrently failed to alert consumers in a timely fashion, especially considering the sensitivity of the information.”

If your private information is involved in this breach, you may be at increased risk of financial fraud or identity theft, and you may be entitled to monetary damages.

Current and former AT&T customers who have received an email notification that their personal data may have been compromised are urged to contact attdatabreach@feganscott.com to learn more about their rights or visit www.feganscott.com for more information.
